(after Alira's trial)
Rayne walked to the lake side, her steps dragging. She had left proud from the trial, but it was only a farce to hide her true feelings. The black beta sat on the bank of the lake, the clear water showing her reflection to her.
The wolf she saw there wasn't her usual countenance. Blood dripped from her fangs, her crystal eyes were cloudy and even with the sky darkening behind her, her expression was torn.
Make sure you look after your mama while I'm gone Alira...
(giggle) Yes ma'am!
You're so cool Rayne! I could never fight like you!
Will you play with me?
Rayne felt her heart break as memories of Alira as a pup flooded her mind. Suddenly water started to pour down her face, though she wasn't sure if it were from the sky or her own eyes when she let out a mournful howl.
Why did she have to be the one to end life in this pack?! She had loved Alira like her own pup before she had them. But if she were this hurt, how must Revera be feeling?
Again another howl escaped her throat as the normally composed warrior wept for the life lost by her own fangs.

(Back from the mountain) Revera arrived panting from the force of her run. Her shaking heart ached in her chest. Her eyes flew wide open at the sight of blood on her betas mouth. Aliras blood. "Rayne." Her voice cracked as her stamach convulsed. She swallowed hard and looked up at her beta with misty eyes. "What happened?"

Revera felt her legs buckle. Alira her only pup now lay in her own blood. Where was the light in the world now? Where was the hope for her world. "Alira." She winced as the barbs of her daughters name ripped her throat. "I wish it didn't have to be this way. I wanted to see her again. I wanted to see my baby happy Rayne." The sobs soaked down her face to mingle with the storms tears. "Did I do the right thing?"

Rayne took a step forward before running over to her friend. She took Revera close and placed her face over the smaller wolf, shielding her from the world. Rayne's taller form blocked most of the cold water falling from the sky.
She closed her eyes, pulling her friend closer to herself, I'm sorry Revera, I'm so sorry.
At that moment, rank was taken out of the equation. They were not alpha or beta, they were friends and more importantly mothers mourning the loss of an offspring. No matter how annoyed or disgusted Rayne was with Alira, she knew what she meant to Revera.
She chose her fate, Revera. How would she have functioned in this world with the weakness she carried? We did quickly what the enemy would have dragged on for hours.

Revera burried her face in her friends midnight pelt. She had never felt so young and fragile then right now. She pulled her paws beneath her chin no longer caring that she was supposed to be strong. Her world was falling apart she had earned the right to cry. "Did she suffer? What did she say?" She barked weakly trying to cling to these last remenants of her daughter.

(Transition from Mountain Peak.)
Sigurd charged after Revera, running from the mountain's peak down through the woods just as the rain had started. His paws sloshing through the wet grass and mud as he bolted past the trees. He started to slow down as he approached the lake, seeing the two wolves standing near the water's edge, their pelts undeniably marking them as Revera and Rayne. Slowly he approached the two, stopping a few feet from them.
Sigurd looked on, his eye full of sadness. "She asked me to be with her. I must remain strong for her." He thought to himself, keeping his warrior reserve in place as he sat on his haunches, fighting to keep his emotions in check.
(Sorry about the previous post. I'll post this better one instead.)

Rayne felt her heart pinch. Should she lie? Would it make it easier for Revera? The black wolf inhaled before speaking softly, She didn't suffer, I....I made it quick. She accepted it and wanted to be with Alpha and Beta. I doubt she felt any pain at all.

Revera sighed slightly soothed. She believed her friend completely but there was still the matter of honor. "Did she try to fight?" Revera thought she knew the answer but she had to hear it aloud. Her ears pricked at the approach of her mate. She didn't know what he would make of this display or what could be said. She only gave him a soft glance and turned her attention back to Rayne.

Rayne bit her tongue, she hoped Revera wouldn't have asked that, but she hadn't ever lied to her in the past and she wasn't going to start now.
No, she told me she wanted to die. She didn't want to live in this world anymore, so I removed her from it.

Sigurd gave his mate a knowing nod, smiling softly to her. He had no words, but just gave her his encouraging smile. He wanted to tell her that the times would get better, and that the time for her to smile would come again, but at the currant moment, it would have been inappropriate. So instead he turned around and sat back down, sitting guard so the two could have their time.
Sigurd kept watch, just like when he first arrived, tuning out what they were saying and focused on making sure they weren't disturbed. After a moment, he felt like he was intruding, and decided he would leave them alone. He turned his head, nodding to Revera and headed back to the den.

Reveras eyes stretched wide in surprise. "What? She..she wanted to die?" This probably hurt the red wolf more than anything else. She was such an advicator of life and her own daughter had chosen to end that precious gift. "After everything I tried to teach her. She just threw it away?"

Rayne backed away a bit, I'm sorry Revera, but you will always find honesty from me. It hurt to end her life, but it was the right decision. I'm sorry it had to be me to do it.

"No no I understand and I'm sorry it had to be you." Revera pulled away as well. Shame like fire burned her skin. Why... Revera snapped her jaws shut against the pain. It was time to be an alpha again. Her head felt heavy as she lifted it proudly. "I wont make you do this again Rayne. If another execution must come to pass it will be my own jaws that ends it." She nudged her friends cheek. "I know this was hard on you too."

Rayne inhaled, speaking in an aloof voice, If you have a talent, you should use it to benefit your pack. I have a very specific skill for assassination.
Her heart ached as she repeated the words her father told her before his death and Rayne jumped when she heard Kiba's voice call out from the wood line.
Ki....Kiba?
