Rayne watched Alira depart to her mother's calling and snorted after her. She wanted to know what was so important, but wouldn't be able to leave her pups until Kiba returned from his checks.
She looked over to her son crouched in the bushes What do you have, my little warrior?

Luna kept watching her brother, before finally standing up and padding over to him. Crouching down beside him,she glared intently at the bushes. "Is it food?" she murmured in her brother's ear,who looked at her and shrugged. Luna was guessing that her brother might not be telling her the truth, but shook it off and watched the bushes.

When he didn't answer her, the mother wolf stood and walked past her daughter who was smelling her brother curious. Rayne looked down at him Balo?
He looked up to her with a small bird in his jaws. Luna let out a giggle and Rayne was about to praise her son for his tiny hunt until she saw that the bird was still alive.
Balo, finish what you started. Don't leave it half done.
His eyes took hers in with challenge when he dropped the writhing bird But it's more fun this way. I like to see it fight. Rayne watched the small robin attempt to fly away though its wing was clearly snapped and blood was trickling from the small gashes of her son's teeth.
A twist of shock went through her at her son's sick pleasure for watching the animal suffer. She spoke again Balo...I'm not going to say it again.
He flicked his tail at her before turning his intense gaze back to the struggling bird. Rayne's eyes widened when she saw the small smile on her pup's face.
Taking a few steps forward she raised a paw and drove it down on the bird's head, crushing it instantly. Luna gasped while Balo let out an outraged Hey! That was my kill!
Rayne turned and stood tall over her son, bearing her fangs Den...now...

Luna couldn't believe it. How could Balo be so cruel? She felt shock, and slight anger bubbling inside her,but decided to keep it to herself. She didn't want to get into a fight with her brother at this moment. She watched Balo stand up,obviously annoyed that their mum had killed the robin. She looked back at the now dead robin, and felt a pang of pity. Why couldn't Balo just kill it? Sighing, she stood up,looking at her brother with more shock since she'd heard him mumble something about "how it was fun to see it struggle". She looked at the robin once more, then her mum and Balo. What would their father say about this?

Rayne watched her son stalk off to the den grumbling to himself. She needed Kiba to return soon, this was getting out of hand. Turning her eyes down to her daughter Rayne cleared her throat Luna, have I ever told you what Alpha and Beta teach us about life?

Luna shook her head, not for the question, but to try and get the image of the suffering robin out of her head. "No" she said, taking one quick last glance at Balo. 'It was probably just him being bored' she thought to herself, agreeing to that. There was no way that Balo would do that out of pleasure. She shook her head again. "You haven't told me,mum."

Rayne felt a shiver go down her fur at her son's actions before she shook herself and addressed her daughter. Laying down gracefully, Rayne welcomed her pup into the curve of her body while the afternoon sun warmed them both.
Licking her daughter's tiny face, Rayne breathed Long ago, when the world was new. Alpha and Beta ruled the land with strength and grace. They believed that every life was precious for every being, no matter how small played an important role in the grand design. They made two rules when it came to hunting.
1. You will never kill more than you need 2. Every life deserves your respect, no matter how small.
She licked her daughter again, So you see, my love, we may have the fangs and the ability to end life, but that doesn't give us the right to decide which life is more important than another. Do you understand?

Luna listened intently to her mum, nuzzling her mum. She found all this interesting, but now a question was picking at her. She looked up at her mum, nodding. "I understand. It means that every life has its rights." Luna didn't know whether or not she should ask the question, but decided she had to know this. Looking at her mum's steady gaze, she hesitantly asked, "So,does that mean that Balo disrespected Alpha and Beta?"

She looked at her son's trek while he rested in the entrance of the den, weighing her answer to her daughter's question. She decided the Luna was much more perceptive than most pups her age so making something up to appease her wouldn't show her daughter respect.
She sighed and flicked her tail annoyed Balo needs to have a conversation with your father. Unlike you, my love, male wolves feel the need to push limits sometimes for no reason, even if it is a horrifying result. I think we should let your father have a word before we go consulting Alpha and Beta, don't you think?
Rayne smiled at her daughter's calculating gaze which was so much like her own before standing Would you like to go to the lake or are you getting tired and want to head home?

Luna took her mum's answer in and understood. She stood up,shaking her head. "I'd rather head home mum,it's been a confusing day."
