Rayne panted heavily, sharp pain pulsating through her as the tiny pups within began to turn. It was a natural pain, one that she had felt prepared for all her life, but still begged for it to be over.
She yelped slightly and pushed trying her best to speed up the process. Wave after wave of blinding pain came over the female until with one final push two heads slid out, one after the other.
Then the pain was done and sweet relief rushed through the exhausted wolf. She panted, sweat drenching her body when the squeaks of her pups called to her.
Raising her weary head, the new mother licked her pink tongue over the first pup who wiggled and squeaked under her touch. Her black fur already matched that of Rayne's and Kiba's.
Rayne smiled at her daughter, licking generously, You are to be called Luna, for the moon smiled the night you were born
The feeling of immense joy she felt was dimmed when she went to clean her second pup and found no movement.

Revera's tail swapped across the rocky den as she gazed at the new family. The night was beautiful and the moon full. Her eyes swept the unmoving body. It must hurt Rayne so that her pup could be... A sigh left the alpha's muzzle. She rose to her paws and gingerly stepped around her friend to the pup beyond. Her eyes measured Rayne's apprehensive glare. New mothers could be even meaner than grizzlies. Carefully she drew the pup away from the family. Its black silky fur gleamed with placenta and blood. The birthing would have to be cleaned up and the new mother moved but as of right now the pup was of importance. She dropped her head licking heavily at the gleaming fur trying to rouse some life back into this little pup.

Rayne watched Revera take her lifeless pup away and though the protective spirit spiked within her, she realized that her alpha would cause no harm to her pups. Her heart broke when she watched Revera's pink tongue attempt to rouse life into the little pup but to no avail. She had lost him....
Rayne lowered her head until the insistent yipping caught her attention. All was not lost, she had a beautiful daughter at her paws and the new mother decided to shower her with affection for both pups. Curling her into her front leg, Rayne licked the blood and placenta from the small female's eyes.

There was no hope left for the little black scrap at the alpha's paws. Still she licked just a little more. It was a male with a white star just like Kiba. It could be strong and fast like it's parents. She may be holding the future alpha just inches from life. But after a few minutes she knew it was hopeless and let her eyes fall back to its mother.
I'm sorry Rayne. Revera whispered sadly.

Post by Myria on Jul 9, 2012 10:48:52 GMT -5
Myria paused silently just inside the treeline before the den. Her amber eyes scanned the area for a moment as she scented the air, catching the now familiar scents of her new pack mates. Her ears swiveled, and her keen hearing caught the sounds of the pack's pup playing inside. Switching her tail once, the wolf gave the area one last appraisal before breaking through the treeline.
Revera mentioned she needed assistance with cleaning the den, and was also looking for hunters.
Trotting into the den, the female wolf inspected their living quarters. The pup was romping through a mass of dried leaves and dirt, as well as left over bones from the pack's last meal. Shaking her head, Myria began removing the bones, only to have the pup latch on to the pieces protruding from her muzzle. Giving a playful growl, Myria tugged once and the pup toppled over itself, yipping happily. To avoid injuring the young one, the larger wolf carried her muzzle high, so the pup could not reach the bones. After the bones had been safely removed, Myria began removing the dirt and leaves. Within moments, the den was clean again and Myria settled herself at the den's opening, waiting for her alpha to return and appraise her work.
As she switched her tail and the pup pounced on it, the shifting wind brought the scent of elk blood and Myria breathed shallowly, allowing the Jacobson's organ in her olfactory region to be stimulated. As the organ converted scent to chemical reaction, Myria was positive it was an elk. The sound of hooves neared the den, and a moment later, the buck paused before her. When it caught sight of Myria, it turned tail and fled, limping heavily.
Stay in the den, little one. I will return soon with a meal for the pack.
To enforce her rules, she picked the pup up by the scruff of its neck and deposited it further in the den before turning and loping after her prey.
As she scent tracked and tracked by eyesight, the wolf could tell this elk had been injured severely from the way the underbrush was disturbed. Within moments, she caught sight of the young buck with an injured hind leg; it had been left behind by its herd as it was now slowing them down. Myria felt a small twinge of pity for the animal, but knew its death would be quick, and it would sustain life. Coiling her muscles, Myria launched herself at the elk.
Strong jaws clamped down on the beast's trachea, and Myria felt her canines puncture the cartilage of the organ. The beast flung its massive head, futilely attempting to throw its attacker off. Myria felt the animal's back lower and knew that its back leg had given out. Throwing her weight to the ground, Myria applied more pressure and felt the cartilage give between her teeth. In a moment, the elk had stopped flailing and its body went limp. Myria released the trachea before backing away from the kill, lowering her head to her prey.
I'll have to inform the pack of my kill, and then we may feast....but first, I need to hide the body to ensure it isn't pillaged by scavengers.

Kiba sat watching the events unfold. his alpha taking his son to the side, her tongue trying to wake him. it was useless he knew but he rose anyways. he had to try and rouse his son, limping over he picked up where his alpha left off trying to spark some life into the pup that looked so much like his brother. but that white that stood upon his face, that had kiba all over it. he kept licking at him but to no avail his son had passed. it was heartbreaking but a truth of nature. not all births were magical moments. some life was put out before it had a chance to spark. just as he had given up on his son he gave a final lick, one not to revive but to say good bye to the son he would never know. closing his eyes and beginning to turn away when he paused. what the? A twitch, a slight motion. moving over he began licking again, as he did the little pup began moving more and more trying to stop the instant licking finally it began crying. RAYNE! RAYNE! HE'S MOVING! HE'S ALIVE! bouncing around with joy despite his injuries Kiba began yipping with excitement. his son, his son was alive! calming down he moved quickly as he could bringing his son to Rayne. young one the gods have favored your life on this night. from this night on you shall be known as... he paused for a moment. he looked so much like his brother... could his eyes possibly? he thought for a moment and decided. his son looked much to similar to that of his brother not to name him that. he smiled as he looked down at his son Your name shall be Balo, the warrior with two spirits, named for my brother to carry his spirit with him in battle. he smiled at his choice. both his children would grow to be strong indeed.

Rayne's head shot up at her mate's announcement. She took in the sounds and the sight of her son crying with the new world presented to him, air which had been lost before filling his lungs with each cry.
Tears of joy wet her fur as she picked up her daughter in her mouth and walked over to her son, setting her down so that both she and Kiba could admire their offspring.
Rayne nuzzled her mate, heart filling with joy, Oh Kiba, Alpha and Beta have smiled upon us this night. Her eyes turned happily to Revera Thank you for not giving up.
Luna curled her small tail back and forth while Balo was even now attempting to stand on his much too small legs. Her heart filled with pride when she looked up to Kiba whose injuries were freshly closed Our pups have made it, my love. They will be warriors yet.

Revera's heart ached at the happiness of this new family. It was amazing that Kiba could bring the pup back, and she ashamed that she had almost burried the scrap alive. She said nothing to her friends thank you, so full was her throat with emotion. With a sweep of her tail she summoned Alira, Nightshade, and Myria. Her sharp nose tipped back into the sky and the song of new life flowed into the dimming night.

Myria's observant amber eyes watched the new family as a feeling of contentedness settled upon her; all was well within the pack. The new life would keep the members busy, but they would grow to be fine wolves one day, and all members would assist in their rearing.
The wolf absently scratched an itch before licking her paws and settling down in a corner of the den. Her sensitive nose pressed against the cool stone and she gave a sleepy, content snuffle before closing her eyes for a bit of rest after the day's activities.

Revera rose from where she lay and sniffed. Had she heard Miranda? The medicine wolf had finally returned to the den and not a moment to soon. Miranda your back! The alpha wolf howled and ran up to her friend drawing her nose over the omega's snout.
