Myria paused near the lake. Finding a large snow drift, the timber beta allowed herself to collapse into it. Snow billowed around her and settled on top of her plush pelt. The cold snow eased the growing fire from her injuries. The beta carefully stretched her injured leg, ensuring it was level before settling herself. Won't be long before the adrenaline wears off and my body goes into shock. The snow will help...my body functions better at colder temperatures.
Myria was vaguely aware that her wounds were slowly reopening from the strain, but she was too lost in thought to care.
Rayne's gone...she's really gone. Kiba will be without a mate, Luna and Balo will be missing their mother...and Chase...if only I had disposed of Jade sooner, perhaps I would have been able to help him.
Though the female wolf willed herself to stay awake, her eyes grew heavy as time wore on.
I'll return to the den after a nap...just a small one...under the stars in the pristine snow...just like...home. the beta assured herself before she fell victim to exhaustion, her mind replaying memories of her younger self in the boreal forests of the Caribou mountains.

Myria awoke with a start, fluffy white powdered snow billowing around her. The last words her mother and father had told her before she left her homeland still rang in her ears.
When you are willing to lay your life down for those you care for, when you are willing to sacrifice yourself to protect what and whom you call yours, you have found your home. Family is pack and pack is family, daughter. Family is everything. One day you will find a new home, a new pack, and have a family of your own; protect them well.
Myria inspected her leg, noting that the swelling and pain had gone down considerably while she was napping. The injuries to her throat and neck still burned, however.
I will need to seek Miranda eventually...the last thing I need is septicemia from that worthless wretch Jade.
Myria scented the wind as she got to her legs slowly, her body beginning to shake as the shock set in.
I will be well enough for a while...but I need to return to the den or the ravine...I can smell most of the others gathered there. the beta spoke to the frigid air. Just then, a new scent greeted her nose.
What's this? A new wolf?....Shannon is at the lake, with this new wolf. Time to investigate. With that, the timber beta walked towards the lake's edge.
