Revera padded through the moonlit forest. The icy sheen of the lake peeked around the pretty snow capped hills. The alpha sniffed the air but didn't catch more than the scent of raw fish.
She wrinkled her nose to the scent and sat, waiting for Vikas to show up.

Vikas walked slowly, the numbing feeling leaving his body with each step. He approached Revera who sat like a crimson rose against the snow-frosted ground. His breath came out in a white puff, It's so cold here.

Revera giggled a little at his observation. She stretched and shook out her scarlet fur. "When I first came here, it was brutal. My fur was so thin from the praire grass." She yawned a little then straightened. "Was there much snow where you came from?"

Vikas shook his coat, trying to gather some warmth, No, sometimes I would see it in the mountains, but this is the first time I've ever felt it. You are from the prairies? How far away was your homeland?

"A while." The alpha barked gazing up past the moutains. "Many many days away." She shrugged, pricking her ears for the sound of prey. "But that doesn't matter. My birth home is gone. I belong here."
She padded past him and eyed the branches of the trees overhead, before leaping agily into the lower branch. Her bright eyes glinted off the moonlight as she searched.

Vikas quickly caught up, I ask because the prairies were north of me. But is you say they are days away then I am further away then I believed.

Revera landed just behind Vikas and barked. "It's about a moon's walk. I made it with my friend Miranda before this pack was founded." She barked. Her ears pricked with the sound of something settling in the brush. It sounded large. Too large for one wolf to put away alone. She sighed and sat turning her golden brown eyes to his. "I'm not sure if you would make it going that far alone."

Vikas sat on his haunches, I know you are right, but I have to make it home. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but my pack needs me.

"I don't want to tell you its impossible." Revera murmurred meeting they young male's eyes. "If it was my family, I would go to heaven and hell to find them, but I've never turned my back on someone who needed me."
She sighed pacing, her mind racing through possiblities. "Just stay long enough to assure me that my pack is or is not in danger and I will provide you with a party to help you home." She stopped before him feeling her pelt prickle with nerves. Either this was a great comprimise or it would piss him off royally. Rayne help me. She prayed.

Vikas weighed the options. He could have made it by himself, but it wouldn't be easy. The male turned and focused on the female beside him, It's not in my nature to turn my back on those who need me either. I'll help you, alpha of the Shadow Keepers, but not for the aid you've promised. I will help you because it is the honorable thing to do.

A slow relieved smile crossed Revera's face making her drop her eyes shyly. She was too open with her emotions. It was too easy to read her when she got like this. She would have embraced a wolf of her own pack, but this male was still a stranger. She would need to stay official. "You have no idea, what that means to me. I thank you Vikas of the Storm Hunters. I am in your debt." She bowed her head still smiling softly then stood with a sweet look in her eye. "Now, about that food. What are you thinking on?"

He nodded to her, I don't know what prey is common here. Down south we have deer and pigs.

"We've caught a boar before but...I couldn't do what she did." The alpha barked feeling the memories of Rayne tugging on her heart. "There's a deer in the brush a little ways over there." She barked flicking an ear to her right. "I think its sleeping so we could corner it. If there's anything left over we can take it home." She let her tail wag and turned to the brush she mentioned feeling her tail swap against his chest as she moved.

Vikas looked down where her tail brushed his chest and he got a quick whiff of her scent when she passed. He caught the scent of the deer and approached her side winking as he passed, Let's see how the Shadow Keepers hunt....Firefly.
With that he circled to the left, keeping his body down wind.

Revera grinned loving the feel of a challenge. "Sure thing Hunter." She whispered getting low to the ground. The deer had huddled itself with back against a sunken groove. It must have been exhausted to have chosen that location for its refuge. She could just make out its heavy winter coat rising and falling in snores. She glanced up to Vikas and then toward the deer comunicating her plan as she set herself up to ambush once the deer rushed out. A little herding onto the lake and that deer was as good as theirs. She hoped he'd been able to divine her plan before she fell into the shadows. ***
The deer slumbered under its scanty cover. Her giant soft nose glistened with moisture and pulled in the scents of the night. She'd traveled long from the huge black paws of the orange coats. Finally she'd found her cover but had been unable to do much more then collapse where she'd stood.
