Balor took a steadying breath and closed his eyes. In his mind he imagined again and again that his paws were gliding over the vines cleanly. The sun catching his deep raven pelt. He could do this. He would do this.
The great wolf opened his eyes to a narrow and took off at a run. He could see Myria on the other side. He would reach her. He knew he would reach her. His body weight fell in his back paws as he launched his body into the air. The red vines slipped like a dream under his forepaws. His mouth spread into a deep smile of glee as his back paws also didn't hit the vines. His paws came down painfully on the path but he'd done it.
He couldn't hold back a painful whine from the lock up of his back. "Oy I'm so old." He grumbled streching his back and feeling it pop into place. "Now, what are those shiny pelts I heard you talking about?"

Myria blinked at the older male.
I see you're still agile. That was fairly impressive, I would have crashed into those vines. she nodded at him before glancing around.
Shiny-pelts...the monsters enter and exit them. We think the monsters are parasites, using these shiny pelts. Their legs...roll. Those snake like tracks belong to them. The ones we have seen are huge, with eyes that are so bright they can blind. And they are very loud....they growl constantly and they do not smell good.

"Nothing that growls constantly smells good. Exibit A." He barked bopping her nose with his tail. "It sounds like your describing me. Besides the rolling. So the monsters we track are tracking bigger monsters. That's interesting." He shook out his raven fur and sat. There were sounds down farther in the forest. What was that?
"So follow the sounds or take the path through the trees and wrap around?"

The beta shook her head when his tail impacted her nose. She narrowed her eyes and sneezed dramatically; the world was still quiet and the night had grown darker.
Your pelt isn't nearly as shiny. Anyways...I never enjoy going directly to the source...I would suggest wrapping around. It will also give us time to escape if they come at us.

Balor nodded in agreement and took the lead through the trees. He dropped his head once more and loped through the shadows enjoying the security it gave him. Something strange was floating in the air. The ex alpha bared his fangs as they drew closer. Lights were flashing from between the trees along with the smell of smoke. "Fire." He whispered. The lights of the fire seemed so central though. Like they were controlled. His eyes widened in awe and respect. Something that could control fire?!

Myria's muscles immediately tensed and her ears flattened. Fire...run... the instinctive need to survive tried to get her to run, but she planted her paws and peeked around a tree. The glowing heat was in the middle of a dirt-covered clearing, and there were a few smaller pyres around a large one in the middle. The beta found a shadow and disappeared into it, her amber eyes glancing at the strange den-like structure made of fallen trees. Some monsters were coming in and out through a strange apparatus that swung inwards and outwards.
Their den...they live in a den of trees. she murmured quietly. She watched a monster approach a large grey box and examine it. It used its forepaws to push sections of the shape and the box began to glow.

Balor felt the female tense beside him and brushed his pelt against Myria's. His blue and green eyes gazed at the gray box being held aloft by that things crazy strong looking paw. "What the hell is that?" He murmurred watching them.

The beta shook her head from side to side, not saying anything as her eyes stared at the human. She was interested to know, and yet...she felt that they should be running far, far away.
The thick foreleg of one of the monsters hit another shape, and the box began screaming. Myria's ears immediately flattened and she crouched to the ground. The box was loud, so loud that she could feel vibrations in her paws.
A torture device? she proposed through clenched jaws. She glanced at the monsters...oddly, they seemed to be enjoying the disturbing noise-box.

Balor snarled and forced himself in front of Myria as if he could block the painful noise from her. "This is some type of ritual." He managed to bark as the monsters drew to their hind legs and bounced around like fledgling birds. "Maybe its like a howl before the hunt. We need to get out of here." He groaned.

The beta nodded and gave the monsters an angry glare before crawling back the way they had come. Once she was submerged in the shadows, she stood upright and trotted pausing before the shiny-pelt path and waiting for Balor.

Balor lingered a moment watching the rituals before him. The seemed so gleeful to hear the wrenching sounds bursting from the noise-box. He was curious of these awesome creatures that commanded sound from boxes, controled fires and harnessed lightning. Something very strange was happening with these creatures. He hoped he wouldn't have to find out what it was.
Finally he turned away and spotted Myria on the Shiny Pelt path back toward the vines. He nodded to her and took a running leap at the vines this time catching his back paws on the top making him stumble into the shadows. "Damn," He growled sitting down and waiting for Myria to join him.

The beta watched Balor fly over the sparse vines, though less eloquently this time. She flicked an ear at the torture/ritual device before slinking rather easily beneath the vines and catching up to Balor.
Not too damaged, are you? The pack needs to know of this right away. she glanced at his back legs, hoping they wouldn't need attention from Miranda. The vines had made some noise upon impact, but it was quickly absorbed in the dark night air.

"I agree, but your alphas should know first. They might not want you to raise alarms yet. Where's Revera and her mate now?" Balor barked stretching his body out again. This was gettin more painful as he went along.
(Warning. My roomate is holding his shoe. After we leave here I gotta go.)

(*glares at room mate*)
The beta nodded. Revera is out on a reconnaissance mission on the Kings. Vikas...escorted Scarlet to the border some time ago. He should have returned to the den by now.

"Then we'll tell him first. You mind leading the way? I"m kind of turned around right now. The smoke and all." He barked with a shrug eying the creek. He at least knew he was supposed to go that way.
